ESSEX - Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Samuel DeMaio have announced that authorities are investigating three shootings that occurred in Newark.
On June 26, Newark police responded to the area of 84 Brookdale Avenue shortly before 6:00 pm on a report of a shooting. Arriving police officers discovered a male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound outside at this location. The victim, who has been identified as Jamar Cato, 21, of Newark was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.
Earlier that day, Sabrina Hall, 42, of East Orange was shot in the 700 block of Bergen Street. The victim was transported to University Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
On June 25 at approximately 12:48 am, Coleaf Johnson, 33, of Newark was found in a stolen car in the 300 block of South 18th Street in the City of Newark. The preliminary autopsy indicates the cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced at the scene.
