Hello Readers,
People have hailed the legacy of Donald Payne, Sr. and they have appreciated the work he has done. With the hope of keeping it going, they have voted overwhelmingly for Donald Payne, Jr. to fill the remainder of his father’s term and the coming full term. Being in an overwhelmingly Democratic region, Donald Payne, Jr. will not have any problem getting elected in the upcoming November election.
Donald Payne, Sr.’s name and support from Joseph DiVincenzo and the Democratic Party was powerful in the outcome of the election. Now the same might impact in the next election to fill in the remaining term of Donald Payne, Jr. in Newark. Who will be the next council president, and who will replace Payne, as he is heading to Washington D.C. The support from the Democratic Party in Newark, East Orange and Essex County has decided the stronghold of the Democratic Machine, including Stephen Adubato, Sr., behind the scenes as political king of the Essex County.
Before Donald Payne, Jr. goes to Washington D.C., we have to list our demands for him to fulfill our necessary requirement to uplift the quality of life for the local communities. Now the question arises whether the country is going in the right direction or not. Will the new congressman bring more money towards the real programs that help the constituents, and not some political lobbyist?
In Orange, William Hathaway, Jr. - who was charged for his threatening remarks before the election - has been voted in for county committee against Fred Vandermeer, as the unofficial results came in. William became a favorite of the people in his district, as he won for the sixth time as a district leader.
In District 9, there was a closely contested election between two congressmen, who won six times each. The majority of the District 9 area was under Steve Rothman’s old district. Due to the census numbers, New Jersey lost one Congress seat. So with redistricting, the area was merged with Bill Pascrell’s district. However, Pascrell registered more voters in this election to offset the deficit of Bergen County voters, and won the election over Rothman.
Governor Scott Walker’s victory against the recall election in Wisconsin has shown the reduction of the unions’ political power. Now other nearby states will follow Walker’s way of breaking collective bargaining with their own anti-union measures that failed in the past. However, the unions in Orange showed a great deal of unity in the May election, where Dwayne Warren won the election over incumbent Eldridge Hawkins, Jr.
Have a wonderful week. I’ll talk to you next week.
