Hello Readers,
The local election on June 5th is drawing the attention of the nation. After the death of Donald Payne, Sr. there was a gap in the leadership. The election will decide in whose hand they want to divert the leadership. Is it Donald Payne, Jr.? He has a great advantage over others that he has the same name as his father. He has not removed the suffix Jr. from his name, he has contacts in Washington and he has a likeable personality. A quiet person, but not aggressive enough to impress people. Ronald C. Rice has the same thing in terms of respected father in the political community, but he is aggressive and easily accessible. Nia Gill has a personality and knowledge, but she has not been seen at the local events the majority of the times. Wayne Smith is good with the people, but does not have a name in the entire 10th District. Dennis Flynn is young and very energetic, but does not have the name and support that a candidate needs. I don’t have any knowledge about Catherine Wright, but I can say that she has the same problem as Dennis Flynn.
Another Election is also drawing close, the local election for Sheriff. For the first time, Sheriff Fontoura has been challenged by an energetic young and strong candidate. The Sheriff is a key position not to be ignored. The Sheriff decides the key elements for the control of crime. If anyone thinks that under Sheriff Fontoura crime is under control, they should vote for Fontoura. If they think that the crime is not curtailed in Essex County the way it’s supposed to be, they should vote for John Arnold.
The next election will shape up immediately after the June 5th election. First, there will be the presidential election. President Barack Obama needs our support. However, I will ask myself a question. Before we commit to Obama, I ask whether he has done enough in my opinion to change the economy, curtail crime, having a better foreign policy, taking care of health care and helping students for their education. First economy is the national economy. It does not matter if everyone is making more money; as if we don’t other factors the benefits are null and void. Second is our local economy. I don’t think our local economy has improved drastically. However, the reports say that the American Economy has been improved under Obama. The dollar is stronger against many foreign currencies. However, the middle class has not been getting an advantage under this economy. The government economy has a twist. Some government agencies are doing fine, but some government offices are facing tough economic times. I have supported Obama with my full heart. But this time, before I commit myself, I want to see that Obama will help the working middle class and working poor class or not.
The New Jersey Devils are in the Stanley Cup Finals and are playing against the Los Angeles Kings. I wish them the best of luck and hope they can win the NHL championship. I want to see the first ever major sports championship parade in Newark.
Have a wonderful week. I’ll talk to you next week.
