Editor's Note 5/21

DHIRENHello Readers,

Former Presidential Candidate John Edwards is fighting in court after being accused of breaking campaign finance laws. It is alleged that he used $1 million from his two wealthy supporters to cover up his affair with Rielle Hunter. The affair forced him to resign from the Presidential race and confess publicly. Edwards pleaded not guilty. He has said he made mistakes but broke no laws. If convicted on the six counts against him, Edwards could face up to 30 years in prison and $1.5 million in fines. Edwards eventually admitted that he fathered a daughter with Hunter, after initially denying paternity. What a tragedy for someone who was once a heartthrob and a contender for the Presidency.

According to the Los Angeles Times, “Romney noted that Obama was a harsh critic of Bush’s spending policies during the 2008 campaign, calling his record on debt ‘irresponsible.’ But without delving into the complexities of the economic collapse that Obama faced after taking office, he charged that the president did not fulfill a promise to cut the debt in half: ‘Instead he doubled it, alright, he doubled it,’ the former Massachusetts Governor said.”  According to some polls Obama is leading, but there are some polls showing that Romney is leading. Polls with Obama leading are: IBD/CSM/TIPP: Conducted 4/27 to 5/1 with a three point spread, Reuters/Ipsos: Conducted 4/27 to 5/4 with a seven point spread, Associated Press: Conducted 5/3 to 5/7 with an eight point spread, Gallup: Conducted 5/8 to 5/14 with a one point spread. Polls with Romney leading are; Politico: Conducted 4/29 to 5/3 with a one point spread, Washington Times: Conducted 5/11 to 5/12 with a one point spread, CBS News/New York times: Conducted 5/11 to 5/13 with a three point spread, Rasmussen Tracking: Conducted 5/11 to 5/14 with a two point spread. It is too early to tell that who is leading the race. It will shape up a little more after the Republican and Democratic National Conventions.

According to a Star Ledger report on May 16, 2012 about Newark Airport security, there are known cases of people slipping knives through security, a boyfriend slipping knives through to give a last kiss to his girlfriend, and a dead dog being loaded on a departing flight, without explosives or disease screening. However, there are many incidents that have not been reported. Questions have been raised by a new federal report probing the poor system of reporting and monitoring security breaches. Added to this is the case of a TSA worker accused of working there after stealing a dead man’s identity.

Orange Mayoral Election has been certified according to the report. Dwayne Warren is the mayor-elect according to the certification. If no one shows any objection, Dwayne Warren will be the Mayor of Orange.

Mayor Cory Booker added to his strong popularity after he rescued a neighbor from a fire. Rumor states that Cory Booker has been talked about as leading gubernatorial candidate against Governor Chris Christie. However, Mayor Booker has not given any confirmation to this rumor.

Have a wonderful week. I’ll talk to you next week.
