Newark Beth Israel Medical Center Programs Awarded Bronze Level

heartNewark Beth Israel Medical Center's heart and lung transplant programs were awarded the Bronze Level Community of Practice Donation Awards by the Health Resources and Services Administration of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Presented on November 3, the awards recognize the programs' outstanding patient outcomes.

The Donation and Transplantation Community of Practice is a collaborative that brings together donation and transplantation professionals and hospital leaders to identify and share best practices to increase organ donation and improve the success of transplantation.

Newark Beth Israel Medical Center's heart and lung transplant programs were among 21 percent of the nation's highest performing transplant programs that earned Gold, Silver or Bronze Awards. Programs were judged on three indicators as reported by the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients one-year graft survival after transplant, transplant rate, and mortality rate after being placed on the waitlist.

The Bronze award was presented to programs that achieved significantly above expected outcomes in one of the categories. Newark Beth Israel Medical Center was one of only two hospitals in the Northeast to earn this recognition.
