The 2010 Essex County Free SummerMusic Concert Series continues this season with upcoming performances from La Fuerza Positiva, Alex Bugnon and Peter White, and the Donovan Newby Reggae Band.
La Fuerza Positiva will take the stage at Essex County Riverbank Park on Thursday, July 22 at 7 p.m. Started in the Bronx in 1997, La Fuerza Positiva is a diverse group of musicians with various backgrounds and specialties, including Afro-Cuban, Latino rhythm, rhythm and blues, rock and jazz, along with a horn section.
Also performing are Alex Bugnon and Peter White at the Essex County Brookdale Park on Friday, July 23 at 7:30 p.m. Bugnon is a jazz pianist and composer from Switzerland who came to the United States at age 19 to attend the Berklee School of Music in Boston. He has released several records, including "Head Over Heels," "107 Degrees in the Shade," "This Time Around" and "Tales from the Bright Side," and has won two Soul Train Awards.White first came to the United States in 1975, toured with and opened for Linda Ronstadt, Billy Joel and Queen, and released his first album "Reveillez-Vous" in 1990. Since then, several of his songs have become No. 1 hits on smooth jazz radio.
On Tuesday, July 27 The Donovan Newby Reggae Band will perform at Essex County West Side Park at 7 p.m.
Donovan Newby studied at the Jamaica School of Music and worked as a recording studio session musician until he relocated to New Jersey in 1997. Influenced by Bob Marley, Curtis Mayfield and Jerry Butler, Newby has an original style of compact reggae music. His original releases include "State the Night" and "Push Me Curry."
